花漾秋芒(第七屆草嶺古道芒花季) 2008
2008/The Story of Silver Grass and the Historic Trail
By the seventh anniversary of the festival, the Silver Grass Season at Caoling Historical Trail had
become an important festival in autumn. For seven years, visitor numbers increased steadily and
most of them were visiting the trail for more than the first time. The historical trail is 8.5 km long,
and takes three to four hours return trip. It is a perfect hiking route for young and old alike. In order
to increase visitors’ enthusiasm for hiking and getting closer to the nature, the administration tried
very hard to come up with new intellectual games. This year many interactive activities were devised,
▲多元討喜的年度紀念品。 ▲葉脈標本示範製作中。 ▲仿古驛站吸引遊客湧入。
such as ‘Breaking through the Barricade of Mountain Bandits’ and the ‘Legend of the Ancient Trail—
Let’s Cosplay’, along with other regular and popular activities such as offering hot tea, DIY lessons
of ink rubbings, flour miniature art and leaf vein samples, a free shuttle bus service and last but not
芒花 least the collecting of stamps for souvenirs. This year, visitors who collected all the stamps could get
a useful square headscarf. This prize was too popular to meet the demand! In addition, the Caoling The Legend of the Silver Grass

Photograph Contest attracted many participants. First prize went to Yang Jin Xiu’s work, The Longest
Day at Caoling Historical Trail (shown as the large middle photograph on page 111). Visitors flocked
into the Northeast Coast in an endless stream; creating a record of more than ten thousand visitor
112 admissions in a single day and up to seventy thousand visitors in total for the festival. 113
