荒草沒人作風浪
Passing Caoling
我御天風絕頂上

芒花 風催飛瀑衝石過
Like an ocean the weeds wave alone, The Legend of the Silver Grass
‧ 拾穗
霧漫前山殢雲漲 Going against the wind I head for the peak.
Wind rushes waterfalls to wash over the stone,
老猿攀枝窺行人 Mist devours the hills with the sun so meek.

山海間的古道記憶 怪鳥啼煙弄新吭 Ancient apes climb the branches to peep at travelers,
Strange birds chirping unfamiliar songs.
千年老樹無能名
Nameless ancient trees stood a thousand years,
十丈懸崖陡相向 Hundred feet cliffs rivaling steep and strong.
─ 草嶺古道尋幽行
下瞰大海疑幽冥 Glancing down the ocean below that resembles the netherworld,
Gazing up to the sky to admire its brilliant light.
仰視天光透徹亮 How fortunate I could turn peril into safety,

安得化險為平夷
中外同歌王道蕩 The poem was written
by Ke Pei Yuan, the
Local Magistrate in the
Qing Dynasty, when he
清朝噶瑪蘭通判柯培元過草嶺時,看到草 passed through Caoling
and astonished by the
嶺的優美景色,因而寫下此詩。
