山海間的古道記憶
草嶺古道行至埡口的觀景亭,便可了解草嶺之所以被
稱為「草嶺」的原因。由於山頂為東北季風迎風面,
每到冬季環境特別惡劣,草木生長不易,所以一直保

持著芒草的景觀。每年 11 月,東北角暨宜蘭國家風景
區內的草嶺古道芒花盛開,滿山遍野的銀白芒花,迎
風飄擺、搖曳生姿,宛如大海般的壯闊景象,正是賞
芒的好時節,而「芒花季」的舉辦,也總是讓登山的

遊客留下難忘的回憶。
Hiking uphill to the pavilion at Wu-kou, one can enjoy the
great ocean of silver grass, which swings in the wind and
explains why the trail gets its name Caoling (grass peak). Every
autumn, when the northeast wind starts to blow, only the silver
grass can stand the strong breeze and survive all winter. Every
November, the silver grass grows abundantly on the mountains
around the northeast coast. When the silver grass ocean starts
to swing in the wind, it’s time for the annual silver grass season,
which is a big annual event in the Northeast and Yilan Coast
Administration, and attracts numerous visitors worldwide.
