昔日石蹬如梯


 今日砌石古道



 草嶺古道的步道,先民最早使用了中國
 南方丘陵山路的築路技術,以當地常見
 的石材─砂岩,先打造成長方形石塊,
 再依地形逐階段鋪設,可謂「石蹬如
 梯」,是其最大特色。但自濱海公路通
 車後,草嶺古道失去原有功能,人們也
 不行走於其間,故草嶺古道的路徑及鋪
 設古道的石塊均已不可尋。
 東北角暨宜蘭風管處於整建草嶺古道時,
 特請現居於山中的百姓,共同尋找出原有
 芒花
 之古道路跡,重新以砌石鋪設古道,使登                                                                               The Legend of the Silver Grass
 山旅者能循著古道,緬懷先民開啟山林、
 ‧ 拾穗
 墾闢蠻荒的偉大精神。同時沿著古道規劃
 了3座涼亭,供遊客休憩賞景,另在大里建
 22  有一處遊客服務中心,供遊客諮詢服務。                                                                          23

 From Stone Treads

 to Brick Trail



 In the very beginning, the Caoling Historical
  ─  草嶺古道尋幽行
 Trail was constructed by ancestors from South
 China. They used local sandstone to piece
 together rectangular shapes and followed

 the topography of the terrain, making "stone
 treads” as ladders. However, since the opening
 of the coastal highway, fewer and fewer people
 commuted through the trail, and so the trail
 became desolate for decades. Ten years ago,
 the Administration started to re-build the trail.
 The ancient road track was found and repaired
 with stone bricks. Along the routes, three
 pavilions were built for visitors to take a rest,
 and one Visitors’ Center was opened at Dali,
 available to provide tourist information and
 service.
