天涼好個秋（第一屆草嶺古道芒花季） 2002

2002/What a Lovely Autumn!
Every autumn, the Caoling Historical Trail is covered with white silver grass and the landscape
provides a spectacular view of this grass waving in the wind. Since November 2002, the
Administration started the first Silver Grass Festival, and since then, the annual silver grass season
has become a tradition. It is an important festival on the Northeast Coast. A number of interesting
activities were held during the festival. For example, one could collect stamps to exchange for
souvenirs, there was a folklore craft exhibition, there were demonstrations of traditional Taiwanese
handmade toys, a local historical market stand and painting contests between parents and kids. For
the convenience of visitors, a free shuttle bus traveled between Fulong and the Dali Visitors’ Center.
The first annual silver grass festival attracted up to two thousand five hundred visitors a day and one
