第二屆草嶺古道芒花季 2003

2003/The Northeast Coast’s Third Silver Grass Season
In celebration of the reopening of Fulong Visitors’ Center, the second-year silver grass festival
became the focal activity of the administration for the year, with larger scale activities and resources.
With the sponsorship of other related organizations, such as North Area Coast Guard, Gongliao
Township Office, Toucheng Township Office, ROC Hiking Association, ROC Mountain Association,
and the North Coast Traveling Association, this year’s festival provided even more fascinating
activities and attracted more visitors than the first year. Visitors embraced the beautiful views
from the historic trails while hiking and enjoyed interesting games along the way. In addition to
collecting stamps to exchange for souvenirs, a folklore craftsmanship exhibition, the demonstration
of traditional Taiwanese handmade toys and painting contests that had been held at the last year,
芒花 several new activities were held for the second-year festival. These included photography along the
trail, making ink rubbings and poem writing contests. The newly reopened Fulong Visitors’ Center, The Legend of the Silver Grass

had a Driftwood Sculpture Exhibition Hall, Recreational Experience Area and a maze for children
which was very popular with kids. The opening day created a record of single day admissions of up to
3,200 visitors. This exceeded the number for the first year, and attracted more than twenty thousand
