點沙成金 Turning Sand Into Gold
本屆首次舉辦「國際邀請賽」，力邀七國世界級的沙雕藝術家來PK，經過長達10天嘔心瀝血的
創作，最後冠軍由新加坡的Joo Heng Tan以「武聖」作品獲得，並獲贈美金5,500元（約臺幣
＄165,000）。第二名則是來自加拿大的Karen Fralich，以「夢中的大象」作品得獎，獲贈美金4,500
元（約臺幣＄135,000），第三名則是來自荷蘭的Bouke Atema，以「捕魚的老鷹」得獎，獲贈美金
3,500元（約臺幣＄105,000）。

The first year International Invitation Tournament asked several artists from seven countries to participate. Every
sand sculpting artist put their hearts and minds to work in the ten creation days allocated to complete the works.
The prize for best creation was given to the work Wu Sheng, a respectful title for a historical character with good
faith, virtue and patriotism during the Three Kingdom period. JOOheng Tan, an artist from Singapore, created the
work. Second place went to Karen Fralich from Canada, with her work Dreaming Of Elephants, while the third
place creation was Fishing Eagle, carved by Bouke Atema from the Netherlands.

關羽是三國時代蜀國的將軍，擁有青龍偃月刀及赤兔寶馬。除了他無雙的武藝之外，他的勇氣與
忠誠更加讓人欽佩。後人敬稱他為關聖帝君，並在西元16世紀封他為武聖，廣受世界各地的炎黃
子孫景仰與崇敬。

Guan Yu was originally a general, who lived in the third century AD, during a time of turmoil at the
close of the Han Dynasty. He was renowned for his military skill but he also come to be admired
for his great courage and loyalty. Because of his many virtues he was later deified being officially
recognized as Guan Di, god of war at the end of 16th century bearing the title Wu Sheng. Guan Di
was worshipped as the protector of state officials in temples throughout China and oversea Chinese
around the World.

來以創意沙雕聞名，也贏得許多世界知名沙雕大獎，如德國沙雕世界盃、歐洲冠軍盃、及北美沙雕大

Internationally acclaimed sand sculptor, JOOheng Tan’s works have been showcase over 50 cities
across 20 countries around the world. Recognized for his ability to consistently come up with new and
innovative creations, JOOheng has won numerous accolades for his creations in different parts of the
world. These included prestigious competitions such as the German World Championship, European
Championship, North American Championship, among some of the awards that he has won during the
course of his career.
