2004/When the Historical Trail Meets the Silver Grass
In celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the administration, this year’s silver grass season festival
attracted nearly seven hundred visitors on the opening day. Many were visiting the Caoling Historical
Trail for more than the first time since the first year of the festival. Unfortunately, the grass all over
the mountain and valley was partly destroyed by the typhoon Na-tan and its fourteen-degree fierce
wind. However, visitors still rushed into the northeast coast area to experience the silver autumn
without feeling disappointed. Besides the normal-held activities, such as collecting stamps to
exchange souvenirs, ink rubbing lessons were given for the first time. Visitors could take their own
rubbing creations home after DIY lessons. Moreover, a whole new scenic spot called Yuanwankeng
Water Park (shown as the big photograph on page 89) was designed and constructed at the entrance
芒花 of Caoling Historical Trail. Inside the park there was an area for parent-child interaction, a balcony
for resting, an underwater pavilion, bridges and brooks, ecological pools, stone trails and even a The Legend of the Silver Grass

the simple lifestyle of the old days before walking along the old, historic trails. The festival attracted
more than forty thousand visitors in total for just one month.
