古道五大植物生態




 據清朝古籍姚瑩的《臺北道里記》上所載,昔日之
 古道沿路林木茂盛,仰不見天日,其旁並聞深澗流
 水聲,另亦描述該步道具有許多無法命名的古樹與
 怪鳥,林中多木質藤木,當地人取其藤心而食。古
 籍所描繪的其實就是一幅亞熱帶雨林的生態實景,
 而藤心可食的植物,可能就是黃藤。

 由此可見昔日古道林木鬱閉的情況,但隨著古道之
 開闢,開墾與森林破壞隨之而至。北宜公路開通
 後,古道也隨之煙沒,後雖經造林綠化,然而在草
 嶺稜線附近,在氣候的影響下迄今仍保留著草生地
 的狀況。而歷經大約半世紀的人工林,林木目前也
 正在進行著天然演替的現象,亦即原生的天然林木
 芒花

 草嶺古道沿線大約可見284種維管束植物,其中47
 種為蕨類植物,原生棵子植物只有一種,雙子葉植
