Folds are formed within sedimentary strata that
 have undergone deformation. Sedimentary folds are
 the result of slumping of sedimentary material before
 it is lithified. Folds distributed on a regional scale
 constitutes a fold belt, a common feature of orogenic
 zones.

 造山帶的岩層經擠壓變形產生波狀、盆狀、
 鐘形等彎曲型態,稱褶皺或褶曲。東北角海岸有

 許多海蝕平臺,都展示著岩層褶皺的現象。
 岩層發生褶皺,其岩石中的礦物組成或顆粒
 結晶排列有可能經過重新調整。
